Clean, safe, and readily available drinking water is essential for public health, economic growth, and poverty reduction. Although most countries recognize the right to clean water as one the most fundamental principles of international human rights, limited access to safe and clean water is still one of the largest risk factors for the spread of infectious diseases and continues to be responsible for millions of deaths each year. The primary solution to this problem is simply…disinfection.

Disinfectants are highly effective at inactivating harmful microorganisms which if untreated pose a real and immediate threat to our health (think Typhoid Fever, Cholera, Salmonellosis, Hepatitis, Giardiasis). The disinfection process also results in unwanted disinfection byproducts (DBPs) which may pose long-term health effects (e.g., cancer, nervous system disorders, anemia).

However, health experts within the water industry agree the risks from microbial disease are much higher than the risk from long-term potential exposure to DBPs. Therefore, to protect public health, the US EPA and WHO require municipalities to disinfect drinking water and have set limits for disinfectant residuals and DPBs concentrations. The most common disinfectants used in water distribution systems include chlorine, chloramine, and chlorine dioxide since these chemicals can maintain a disinfectant residual which provides continual protection within the distribution system.

We Provide Safe and Reliable Method for Disinfecting Drinking Water.

Water Treatment Solutions

The benefits of treating Drinking Water with Chlorine Dioxide are well known. It is a highly effective disinfectant and by most criteria it is superior to other disinfectants. The main challenges with large scale implementation of Chlorine Dioxide have historically been cost, safety, and control of DPBs. CWC’s novel Chlorine Dioxide generators use a 2-chemical reagent system to produce stable concentrated solutions of Chlorine Dioxide at an affordable cost. Concentrations are maintained well below hazardous levels and aqueous solutions can be easily stored, handled, and managed by the operator. The generator minimizes formation of DBPs (chlorite and chlorate) by using two reagents and optimizing the chemical quantities to drive a complete reaction. These features combined with low dosing requirements and today’s precise metering and accurate monitoring systems make Chlorine Dioxide the superior disinfectant for water treatment.

Key benefits of our product

  • Our generators are designed as a 2-chemical reagent system contributing to an affordable disinfection process.
  • Chlorine Dioxide is generated onsite using the facility’s own makeup water and existing chemical supply contracts.
  • Chlorine Dioxide is an EPA approved chemical for primary and secondary disinfection in water systems and is recommended by the WHO as a disinfectant.
  • Using Chlorine Dioxide increases the resilience of the utility as it doesn’t compete with the chemical supply chain of chlorine or monochloramine systems (i.e., no sodium hypochlorite).
  • Our Chlorine Dioxide solutions maintain a similar stability as sodium hypochlorite and the shelf life of the dry reagents can prolong the chemical storage period and reduce delivery occurrences.
  • Our customers are reducing their transportation footprint by shipping lighter dry reagents rather than heavier liquid solutions, contributing to a greener environment.
  • The generators produce Chlorine Dioxide solutions with concentrations ranging from 3,000 mg/L to 3,500 mg/L for safe storage and handling.
  • Chlorine Dioxide solutions can be dosed directly into the water stream using standard metering pumps.
  • Chlorine Dioxide requires lower dose, strength, and/or volume to disinfect the water supply relative to other disinfectants.
  • Chlorine Dioxide can oxidize iron and manganese for taste and odor control or sulfide to prevent odor or the formation of colloidal sulfur.
  • Chlorine Dioxide is a highly effective disinfectant which can eradicate many harmful contaminants, including pathogens, bacteria, viruses, and biofilms.
  • Chlorine Dioxide provides lasting disinfectant residuals that maintain disinfection beyond the application point.
  • Chlorine Dioxide does not produce THMs DBPs as with chlorine disinfection.
  • Chlorine Dioxide is effective at removing biofilms that can form in potable water distribution pipes and does not promote nitrification as with monochloramine systems.
  • Disinfection with Chlorine Dioxide does not require ammonia or form n-nitroso dimethylamine (NDMA) DBPs as with chloramine disinfection.
