Biosolids are a nutrient-rich product originating from the wastewater treatment process. Unfortunately, biosolids are sometimes viewed as a waste product and disposed of in landfills or incinerators. Alternatively, biosolids can be treated to meet federal and state requirements and beneficially reused to improve soil conditions, reduce fertilizer consumption, and recover non-renewable resources such as phosphorus. Biosolids are divided into Class A and Class B designations based on treatment methods. Each class has specified treatment requirements for pollutants, pathogens and vector attraction reduction, as well as general requirements and management practices with Class A representing a higher standard. There are various treatment options that can be used to enhance the quality of the biosolids but oftentimes they are not economical for smaller wastewater treatment facilities. In these facilities municipalities pay to haul and dispose of biosolids rather than further treating the biosolids to produce higher class biosolids.

Biosolids Treatment Solutions

This is where we at Clear World Corp. (CWC) can help! Our compact 2-chemical generators produce concentrated solutions of Chlorine Dioxide which is a powerful oxidizer and disinfectant that can be used to significantly reduce pathogens and further treat biosolids. Chlorine Dioxide is added to the waste activated sludge stream to eliminate harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites and reduce the risk of disease transmission. Treated biosolids that meet high standards can then be beneficially used on agricultural land, reclamation sites, forestry and even lawns and home gardens.

Key Benefits of Our Product

  • Chlorine Dioxide is a highly effective oxidant and disinfectant which can be used for destroying pathogens, minimizing odors and reducing vector attraction to the biosolids.
  • Chlorine Dioxide generators use less energy that other thermally treated (heat drying, heat treatment, and pasteurization) biosolids methods.
  • Chlorine Dioxide oxidation requires less reaction time than other methods for significantly or further reducing pathogens including air drying, composting and digestion.
  • Chlorine Dioxide generators do not use harmful radiation methods such as beta or gamma ray irradiation as a method to further reduce pathogens.
